The Workshop construction detailing module provides a range of graphical tools, and an integrated database, to let you parametrically create hull plates, transverse frames, decks and longitudinal structure for all types of Maxsurf designs. It is ideal for early stage definition of structural parts.

The Workshop construction module is used to define the location of parts on the vessel, generate part geometry and build a database of parts which can be passed to other CAD systems like AutoCAD, Rhino or ShipConstructor for further detailing. The parts can also be sent directly to NC cutting systems. Workshop provides you with a range of interactive graphical tools, each of which can be used to parametrically define parts directly from the Maxsurf NURB surface model.

All functions within Workshop are performed using a graphical multi-window environment consistent with all other Maxsurf modules. All data is displayed simultaneously in graphical and tabular form and is automatically updated as changes are made and as part shapes are calculated. Part creation is remarkably simple as parts are defined by clicking on contours on the hull surface and providing part attributes such as material, cutouts and sizes.

Workshop's parametric part definition means that not only do parts match directly to the hull surface, they will also automatically adapt to any change in the hull definition. This allows more concurrent engineering, with design, analysis and construction detailing proceeding in parallel. This increases scope for weight optimisation and results in time savings in the detailing process.

An integrated database within Workshop progressively contains all of the parts you define and calculate. Quantities, areas, weights, centres of gravity and cutting lengths are calculated and tabulated. The parts database can be sorted by any criteria and each part can be renamed to suit your part naming conventions. All parts can be also be exported to spreadsheets or databases.

The material and shape database allows you to define commonly used materials and stiffener shapes for use in multiple designs. Stiffener and cutout shapes can be drawn directly or imported from any CAD system. Shapes can be assigned to longitudinal structure and the corresponding cutouts will automatically be inserted in the appropriate frames.

Both developable and doubly curved plates can be defined and expanded within Workshop. A range of development methods are provided and the Part window also lets you display detailed plate forming information. Girth differences, a colour map of in-plate strain and locations of developed contours, can all be displayed on the plate template. In addition, forming templates, girth length drawings and pin jig layouts can be generated.

The wide range of part creation, definition and display options within Workshop makes it an ideal tool for preliminary or final part creation. From the initial "point and click" definition of parts, through to the three dimensional shaded views of the complete structural model, Workshop provides everything you need to quickly and accurately develop the major structure for your vessels.

Workshop can export to the ShipConstructor Structure module. This means Workshop can be used to quickly define stringer and plate parts, and export them directly to ShipConstructor. Frames and decks can also be exported for further detailing in ShipConstructor.

Workshop provides all of the capabilities you need to rapidly create the major structural components of your design with the level of accuracy you need for construction. Workshop is also available in a limited Workshop/S version which contains just the plate development capabilities.
