Description

During 2002 and 2003 the vessel “Four Vanguard” was converted in Singapore from a double hulled trading tanker to an FPSO. The “Four Vanguard” is presently moored on a disconnectable type single point mooring in the Woollybutt Field situated off the North West coast of Western Australia.

London Offshore Consultants provided the marine engineering team for the turnkey project. Conversion required overcoming numerous technical challenges produced by the addition of process modules, flare tower and helideck to the existing ship structure. The double hull and all internal tanks and compartments were modelled in Maxsurf and Hydromax by London Offshore Consultants with the assistance of Formation Design.

A full stability analysis was carried out including longitudinal strength and damaged stability calculations to the relevant IMO and MODU requirements. The new Hydromax stability criteria and sounding pipe positions were of particular help during the work.

Stability booklets and the operational manuals were all approved by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).
