Description

Designed to satisfy the requirements of an experienced Auckland based yachtsman, the 'Hauraki 45' badging of this fast cruiser describes the rich cruising grounds that are available to the population of the 'city of sails'.

The cockpit layout is carefully designed to meet the requirements of sailing with youngsters and with guests who may have little sailing experience. The boat can be readily sailed short handed and the seating is arranged such that guests can be part of the sailing experience without feeling intimidated or 'in the way'.

Description

The design brief from our clients was to combine the accommodation, structural strength and sea keeping ability of an off shore cruising yacht with the speed and handling of an 'around-the-buoys' racing machine.

The deck layout is neat and uncluttered enhancing the smooth purposeful lines and ensuring shorthanded sailing is easy and enjoyable. Twin wheels ensure maximum visibility and comfort for the helmsman while the open transom provides excellent boarding access for fishing, swimming and the transfer of people and equipment.

Careful attention has been given to weight placement. Whether cruising or racing, a smoother faster ride is obtained through having very little excess weight forward of the main bulkhead and aft of the companionway. ·with all water and fuel tanks situated around the centre of buoyancy, and bulky cruising equipment kept as low as possible, uncomfortable pitching in a seaway is minimized. The yacht is based in Sydney, Australia.

Description

This design is a performance orientated Racer/Cruiser Trailer Sailer. Her sister "Supergroove" has won both line and handicap wins in the North Island Trailer Yacht Championships, National Tailer Yacht Championships, RNZYA Championship, RNZYS/Ryc Wednesday Night Series (Overall) and plenty of local races, all in the last two years. We ran four different hull shapes through Maxsurf before finalizing the lines for the Eagle 8000. We started with a hull that is quite firm in the bilges, for maximum stability. After running this design through a VPP program me, we used the results as a test bed for any changes that we felt could be beneficial. We then gradually smoothed out the sectional shapes to improve the performance upwind and in light airs, while maintaining a flattish planning surface in the run. The initial stability lost was compensated for with a high ballast/displacement ratio. The rig is a triple spreader configuration.
