The ShipConstructor Structure detailing module provides structural production detailing for all the internal structure of a vessel. Automated assembly drawings can be produced directly from the 3D structural model.
The Structure module provides 3D structural production detail with the ease of 2D drafting. Utilizing AutoCAD, it provides powerful 3D ship product modelling functions. Modelling is based on the structural standards defined in Manager and allows detailed definition of plate, profile, face plate and corrugated plate structures.
Modelling is carried out in a series of planar group drawings for each frame, bulkhead, deck or longitudinal bulkhead. All drawings involved in a project are organized in construction blocks or construction units. A unit drawing is always 3-dimensional, but is composed of many "2D planar group" drawings. Many people can work on the same unit, since one designer or drafter can work on each individual planar group drawing in parallel.
All detailing in a 2D planar group drawing is easily accomplished in the AutoCAD environment. All changes made in the 2D planar group are immediately reflected in the 3D-unit drawing. Shipbuilding specific CAD functions are supplied for automatically expanding flanges, making faceplates, extruding stiffeners, and solids to speed up the drafting process and reduce errors.
Once modelling in a unit is completed, 3D assembly drawings can be automatically generated from the structural model. When combined with marked, NC-cut parts, this ensures fast and accurate assembly in the yard. Assembly drawings provide a significant improvement in productivity, both in the design office and in the yard. The system can create dozens of assembly drawings within minutes that just require final annotations prior to issue for production.
As with nest drawings, user customisable templates are prepared with keywords as place holders for up to date data from the database. A customisable bill of materials is generated for all parts in the assembly. Even an automatically generated quality control matrix shows key dimensions and provides space for actual dimensions for quality control purposes.
Optional key map views in the template indicate the location of the assembly within the unit so that errors are minimised and parts and assemblies can be quickly routed to the correct location.
