Summer Studentship - Naval Architecture

We are seeking a naval architecture student to join our software development team for the 2007/2008 summer. The student will work in close cooperation with the programming and naval architecture staff, to create 3D vessel models, run stability calculations and verify implementations of stability criteria.

Responsibilities will include;

• Entry of hull data
• Verification of stability calculations
• Writing of design macros
• Checking of 3D models
• Preparation and checking of design spreadsheets

Skills for this position include;

Essential
• Majoring in Naval Architecture
• Strong in mathematics
• Interested in computers and computing
• Strong computer skills (WP, Excel etc)

Desirable
• Some programming experience
• Knowledge of Visual Basic or VBA
• Knowledge of Maxsurf

Structural Engineer/Programmer

A tertiary qualification in structural engineering or a related technical discipline
Knowledge of advanced structural engineering analysis techniques
Knowledge of steel and concrete design codes
Ideally knowledge of C/C++ and object oriented programming
An enthusiasm and aptitude for programming
Eligibility to work in Australia

Responsibilities typically include design and programming of application programs for;

Steel and concrete design to Australian, Japanese, American and European codes
Finite element plate analysis
Non-linear Analysis
Earthquake Analysis
3D Rendering and Animation

A tertiary qualification in Naval Architecture or a related technical discipline
Strong oral and written communications skills
Strong computer skills
Eligibility to work in Australia

Also desirable are

Maxsurf or NURB surface modelling experience
Knowledge of stability criteria
C++ programming experience

Responsibilities typically include:

Create of sample models using Maxsurf
Research into stability criteria calculation methods
Development of stability software
Development of 3D geometry software

You will also have a strong desire to work as part of a team in the development of complex software systems for an international market.
